Common mistakes

  • You take the legs wider than you can control, so the knees and toes roll forward the moment you fold.

  • You sit with the pelvis tucked under, folding from the waist instead of tipping the pelvis between the thighs.

  • You reach far with the arms to fake depth while the hips have not actually rotated.

What to focus on

  • Sit on a folded blanket — tilting the pelvis forward is the entire game in straddle work.

  • Use the kneecaps as your gauge: if they stop pointing at the ceiling, narrow the straddle.

  • Feel the sit bones stay rooted as the pelvis pours forward; the hands are just along for the ride.
