Common mistakes
You quit when the hips barely move — the maximal press is the exercise whether or not you lift off.
You plant the hands too far in front of or behind the hips, wasting the press angle.
You shrug into the shoulders and hang on straight arms instead of actively pushing the floor away.
You leave the legs passive when the whole drill is about pulling them in toward you.
What to focus on
Push the floor down as hard as you can and think of dragging the heels toward your hips — that compression effort is the adaptation.
Blocks under the hands shorten the distance and often produce your first real hover.
Keep the chest lifted and exhale sharply through each press attempt.
