Common mistakes

  • You hover the hips above the heels with gripped thighs instead of letting them settle.

  • You force the forehead to the mat when it does not reach, straining the neck.

  • You take shallow chest breaths that keep the body from actually releasing.

What to focus on

  • Send the breath into the back ribs and feel them expand against the resting position.

  • Let each exhale sink the hips a little heavier toward the heels.

  • Place a cushion under the hips or forehead if there is a gap — supported release beats an unsupported strain.
