Common mistakes

  • You let the elbows flare out to the sides as you lower.

  • You dip the shoulders below elbow height, which strains the front of the shoulder.

  • You let the hips sag or the chest drop first so the body lowers in pieces.

What to focus on

  • Shift forward onto the tiptoes before bending the elbows — that shift is what keeps the angles right.

  • Lower the whole body as one rigid plank and stop when the elbows reach ninety degrees.

  • Drop the knees to the mat to build the pattern honestly rather than collapsing through a full lower.
